Billy Joel wrote Only The Good Die Young.
Although Billy definitely did not have Mickey Sampson in mind when he wrote that, I thought of that song title when I heard of the death of hydrophilanthropist Michael 'Mickey' Sampson, who had dedicated his life to helping the poor of Cambodia get access to clean water to improve their health.
He went there on a sabbatical to teach chemistry and wound up staying over 10 years.
Read more about Mickey and his work here.
I have a pretty good idea where Mickey is right now. I have an even better idea of what he is doing: providing a glass of clean drinking water to someone far less fortunate than he.
"Because I could not stop for Death,
He kindly stopped for me.
The Carriage held but just ourselves
And Immortality"
-- Emily Dickinson
